Daylight Finally Showing?

we've had some interesting developments recently, primarily in response to intrepid members refusing to be fobbed off with illogical explanations and fandancing...the FooMart has been largely restored, and the Footax bite, while still considerably higher than before, has been cut in half to 25%, a vast improvement and a figure we suggested might be a reasonable compromise when the original horrendous increase went in.

the fact that these welcome changes were not announced prior to implementation - even when the FooMart issue was hot-button and the public answer to "why not?"  was "we can't" (lol) - suggests that they may have found buried sections of code that made them possible...and that they ARE listening to member input if we say it often and loudly enough, even if the inForum responses are less than forthcoming. hopefully our coders will continue to find more nuggets as they mine the scramble that is our base programming.

onwards and upwards back to the real Foo - excelsior !!!

  1. I am thrilled at the two recent changes. I am looking forward to seeing what the carrot they are dangling in front of our noses will turn out to be. They say we will find out next week. I wonder if it will be something actually worthy of all the carrying on MJL is doing.

  2. love feeling hopeful but my cynical side is muttering to watch out for the strings attached to the carrot, lol. wouldn't it be pretty if they restored member-to-member sales of items and pets? they'll make just as much as they are now, probably more as more people get into it.

now that they are unearthing the old code and rendering it functional, who knows what may pop out of the hat...

  3. Maybe I'm just cynical after all that has happened in the past, but I fear this carrot is being dangled by a wolf in sheep's clothing. I would love to see them restore member-to-member sales as well, the current system is practically begging the scammers to come out and play.

    1. they just announced an item glitch that is once again affecting Gifting...giving me the perfect opening to push for a secure double-consent trading system - which more-or-less will require open trading not only of items and pets, but currency as well.

    2. That is one of the biggest thing I miss from SPP...trade requests were proposed by one member and accepted, rejected or ignored by the receiving member...no one could claim to have been scammed.

    3. we're pushing for it...i even have 2 other VA sites willing to share their trading code. the new glitching issue gives even more impetus to getting this done, though the fact that it will be brand-new code rather than "revived" may slow things down.

  4. Well it does look as if things are changing slightly, although accidental use of glitches are still the player's fault apparently. At least they have posted a warning about the latest one http://www.foopets.com/topics/show/2385625?forum_id=6&page=1&post_count=32

The trouble is, since the last glitch when so many foodollars got into the system, people no longer feel that large sums of "resale" are suspicious. And if you are one of the people who hunt for "rares" but do not take a daily peep at the announcement forums, you could miss this and join the throng of suspended or banned players.

  5. and the actual "glitch" description is pretty vague - the issue is with Gifting, supposedly, but it's sales, presumably in both directions, that are being watched (?).

while it's no one's fault if something happens once or twice, if it happens dozens of times in a short period, you kind of have to assume they know SOMETHING is fishy and are rushing to take advantage.

  6. My issue here is that they don't tell you what is really going on. You nailed it on the head Gold, it's vague. While I understand not wanting to tell people how to cheat, I don't appreciate the fact that we don't know what the exact problem is. I have 6 holiday fairies and 5 nyan santas that were gifted to me BEFORE the last glitch. Now I can't even use them for what I wanted to because people will be suspicious of me. I am tired of being kept in the dark. They need to give a clear explanation of what is going on and what to watch for. If people take it into their mind to cheat after that, then deal with them accordingly.

    1. in your case, just screenshot the gift page with the dates, and you're covered. the suspicion between members is the main evil this is creating, i'm afraid, everyone is looking over their shoulders again.

someone suggested suspending gifting until the problem is straightened out - this might well be the way to go as those who take advantage of the glitch (which is indeed a sales/resale issue) would be stuck with their ill-gotten gains, unable to pass them off to other members who did not try to cash in on the glitch. still, i'm sure that somewhere they have purchase records for the FooMart - the gray area (like before) is determining who among recipients of the items received them knowingly, and who is truly innocent and exploited by others.

    2. I don't even remember the month I got the gifts and right around the same time, I was closing my side account. So after those gifts are the million items I had from my side account, quite a few pages, and I am too lazy to go through them again. I found them once because they were proof, I thought, that my friend did not do the last glitch, but they were ignored so...whatever. I'll just wait. I waited a long time after that glitch because I didn't want to be hassled by people who "just knew I cheated" as some others were. I'm just tired of all of it really. We get something good and something bad always follows. If they did hire a new coder, it would appear he's as useless as the people they already have.

    3. i think it's more a matter that they ran across the buried code for the Mart and the tax increase, and when they activated it (having seen the demand for these things), it set off a bug in sales that (from what i've pieced together) lets people multibuy without being charged by cllicking rapidly. poor guys, along with poor members - they tried to do something nice, and it backfired, at least in part.
