and (among other things) needs members to host trick-or-treating sites.
this one is REAL easy, just take the image code for the "doorbell" that we will provide and paste it into one of your pet profiles. (the rest is automatic...NOT like the Easter Egg Hunt last year, lol) Trick-or-Treaters will get a list of sites and try to find and ring the doorbells to get their treats.
(just got a look at the new FooPetter...apparently they noticed us making fun of their poor publication record. (giggle) some good paw-ty stuff there, gives us a way to burn up some of these accumulated foo$ gathering dust...whether any of their promised/planned "improvements" come to pass - and what else they bollix along the way - we'll have to wait and see.)
Heh well I could probably manage that even in my current brain-sogged state. YAY FOR PARTIES
ReplyDeleteIf it's really that simple, I can certainly pop a doorbell into a pet profile, and would love to join in the party
too cool! yes, this multiprofile event runs itself, the "doorbell" takes them to a message telling them which treat they got from that house...unlike the egg epic where they had to find letters, unscramble them to spell a color, message the profile owner to check correctness and find out which of those letters fit the master puzzle and where to go next...i can get seriously convoluted, can't i, lol? but i DO learn. K.I.S.S from then on.
ReplyDeleteMy brain has its convolutions but that made it hurt ROFL... Okay then, "runs itself" suits me nicely, I'm in -- just lead me to the slaughter and I'll go quietly xxx Dee would probably join too, she is currently on holiday though so cannot speak for herself. The old ROAB doors will be closing for a sleep I believe just before the event so will not be able to join in, unless Dee changes her mind about that. Our dear CC is away off in Real Life for a while so her accounts are all sleeping (the last one sleeps this month) but she will be able to peer in because of course we have a little private window open for her. In other words this bunch of oldsters is still here even if only in Lurk mode. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteby all means pass the word to all and sundry - i can't go fully public with it, much as i'd love to, as it involves a (gasp!) off-site link...to a private blogpage with zero "risky" content. sigh.
ReplyDeleteWill do! They are foolish, aren't they... I suppose you could try contacting them for special permission for the one link, in the same way as the lady who does the star awards is allowed her off-site page?
ReplyDeleteoh, yeah - and blow my cover, lol? i've been flying these under the radar for almost 3 years now...i think they figure i'm harmless (in that area) and let it slide, but if i go public i'll be setting a precedent and they'll HAVE to try to shut the events down to block others...and i lack the energy for that sort of p---ing contest at the moment, rather spend my time dreaming up paw-ty games.
ReplyDelete(also, Anita has yet to tread on their corns as i have in my various guises...)
ReplyDeleteHeh okay -- I have a very sweet mental image now of you stomping on their collective corns... Love it! heheheh Well I am doing my best to spread the word xxx
ReplyDeleteAww! That sounds like fun! I wish I could play, but my account is up in two days, and I am not renewing. I'd rather spend the money on something I actually enjoy and don't feel uncomfortable around. I do hope it's super fun for you though!

ReplyDeleteHi, Dropping by looking for the doorbell code to paste into a scene.
Guess it wouldn't be fair to paste up "decoys"???
...i hadn't even thought of that...what a diabolically marvellous idea! they could lead to tricks instead of treats...truly Grinchworthy!
ReplyDeletethe doorbells from canaan will be precoded to take the "ringer" to a treat (and will be distributed, probably via gift messages, a day or three before Halloween), but putting up lookalikes that lead to (??? thinking evil thoughts) sounds like a FABULOUS idea!
LOL what a wonderfully wicked idea... hahaha oh my... Well I have been "spreading the word" but I have to confess that I am not a good networker, so may have missed some opportunities. will keep going though now that my brain is clearing. PAW-TAY PAW-TAY!
ReplyDeletepaw-ty page going up tomorrow morning and expected to be in full swing by noon 10/28. i have figured the whole thing out doorbellwise - we'll offer a selection of styles in img code, just for the fun of it, and the treat (and trick) links to paste into them - including a quick trip to the Pumpkin King (Gold Rush INSISTS on having that gig) who will steal all your candy if you find him.
ReplyDeletehad a thought...visit Canaan Care Share and let me know what you think. if the consensus is that it's workable, we'll bring the project over here.
Woohoo -- this should be fun :))
ReplyDeleteI am puzzled by the second paragraph, have been rootling through the pages here and at Canaan but don't seem able to find a new idea? Of course I am still on the first cuppa...
scroll down Canaan's page and click "Be AnJellicle/Share To Care" icon - hidden in there as it's been there dead in the water since fostering was restricted and shouldn't draw any attention...
ReplyDeletehere is the (rough at the moment) link to the Haloween Paw-ty page...http://canaanschild-halloween2011.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteWHAT a handsome chap heh and I love the BOO page... it looks as if it's going to be a grrrrrreat paw-tay! Am off to read about the S-t-C and do some pondering
ReplyDeleteOkay, I had a look, and it's a great idea but to be honest I do not know if it is truly workable. In an ideal world it would be, but foo at the moment is far from ideal.
ReplyDeleteThe trouble as I see it is that even with the safeguard of a generated email/pass, and the privacy of Paypal, it puts good people at risk of all sorts of accusations and it might be that possible donors could be afraid of that.
Of course, if the recipient never knows who the donor is, then donors may feel "safe".
One would have of course to be sure of the honesty of both donor and recipient.
So basically I think it could be made to work, but being a cat I am still poking at it and skittering away if it moves.
Naturally, the best thing would be if Rivet were to put in place a "gift subscription" system, I have seen this on other sites and cannot imagine why foo would not do it here. It is such an obviously useful money-maker for them.
we have been asking (begging, really) for a gift membership process since the site went to pay only...yes, donors would be anonymous, unless it were an exchange between friends and they just wanted to use the system as a safeguard, sitewise. i am hoping that the majority of candidates are presented by people other than themselves, especially those we know are reputable themselves. self-recommends would need references and (time permitting) an investgation period. still chasing bugs myself, so i know what you mean.
ReplyDeleteI am the same "A different Anonymous Person"
ReplyDeleteI hate to mention this in case it gets around and this door shuts and I can't ever do it again myself.
My husband thinks I spend too much time on the game anyway. He also watches our credit card statements and doesn't know I have to pay to be on FooPets. He would be deadset against it if he knew so I haven't wanted to put it on my credit card because he'd see it.
You're asking how come he doesn't know?
I wondered if any of the Visa Gift Cards I get would work and they do. Use the last word in what is printed as your last name. So for example, if the Visa gift card says "Happy Holiday To You" (where your name would usually appear on a regular credit card)you put in as your first name "Happy Holidays To" and as your last name put in "You". You still have to put in your actual mailing address though.
People willing to donate must purchase a gift credit card with cash and there is about a $5 fee added to the face value of the card.
Some Visa gift cards are "rechargeable" so money can be put back into the card without the donor having to also pay the fee for buying the card. Unfortunately the cards I've gotten as gifts weren't rechargeable so when I wanted to again pay my fees I had to go out and buy a new one with new card charge but it is a small price to pay for not having my husband looking over my shoulder asking me why I'm paying $40 for this.
If you're going to be receiving contributions smaller than $40 you'd have to combine them and turnaround and deposit the funds into one rechargeable credit card.
I believe it would be prudent to not give the credit card number to actual recipients as they could use the Visa number for any purchase. Instead I propose that the Awardee give you their log-in info and mailing address and you log-in pay their renewell fees using the gift Visa credit card. They can then log-in and change their password.
To safeguard, you'd probably be wise to have them send you a screen shot of their profile page showing how much FD/FG is in the account and for you to make one of their PP as well after you have completed the transaction along with screen shot of their subscription page showing you had logged in and paid their fees.
(Perhaps I am overly cautious, but you never can tell.)
yes, that's along the lines of what i had in mind - there is a rechargeable available from Family Dollar in my area that uses only a $3 fee to reload - and anyone with PayPal can register to receive as well as send money via their email to any card registered with PP with no fee, so transfers ought to be reasonably painless for donors. there will be a "stock" email/password for the scholarship recipient to use, and a prearranged time for renewal, so that the window can be kept small. i am confident that anyone good enough to donate a membership wouldn't be tempted to pinch anything from a candidate's account while logged in - and as the transfer time will be privately communicated, no one reading the project page will able to sneak in. the screenshot safeguard is a good idea as well, though inventory/pets could be an issue as well - Canaan/FooBA would replace any lost items in a worst-case scenario.
ReplyDeletethanks to everyone for helping me bulletproof this - is there anything else i'm overlooking?
Great Halloween paw-tay! What I could see of it. Kitten (now bulky teen) was attempting to fly and landed on my face. I was lucky and blinked so my eye is ok - but the lid is mangled. Ouch.
ReplyDeleteI keep a small balance in PayPal from small projects but I would love to siphon a few dollars now and then to a general fund if you have one. If that will help let me know. And which account to send it to.
THANK YOU! i am getting a special Mio (reloadable) for this purpose and once it's on will hook it into PayPal give-and-get : don't know whether to keep the total posted on the CareShare page or not - ideas? so far the concept of using a universal default email logon for handling gift CFs seems to be workable. (whew!)
