9/29/11...care logs and ledgers once again not registering tending - wonder what they're up to NOW ?
9/30/11...logs and ledgers have now been down for over 30 hours, which may be the longest stretch to date. anyone hear anything? about anything?
10/1/11...48 hours and counting - our money is on no results until sometime Monday : any takers? (no odds given, lol)
one of our stalwarts has passed the message that Admin has at least admitted the situation exists and "they are working on it as hard as they can" (but the coders don't work weekends...remember?), and has advised people to keep track of bonding badges etc. in case the info is needed for recovery when and if.
as they know when it stopped - and will presumably know when it starts again - and care bars on the pets ARE showing care normally, why this info should be necessary is unknown...though we suppose it does give people something to do...
10/2/11...care records, outside of the pet's bar graphs (and to no one's especial surprise), still down...and we just noticed - though this may be due to poor eyesight or poor timing - that the "all pets cared for!" message from InstaCare doesn't seem to be coming up either, though the function does appear to be operating normally.
10/3/11...almost 4:30pm Monday (well, 1:30 CA/Rivet time), and ledgers still MIA - has anything amazing been added when our back was turned to account for this record-breaking timespan for what used to be a common and easily-repaired glitch?
10/4/11...when we checked (around 3pm EST), all was restored, page records, ledgers, and all, much as any other time this fairly common glitch occurred, the only differences being its duration, and the fact that to the best of our knowledge this was the first episode of it since the New Crew took over the reins.
so...what new and wonderful thing did they add to the site, so marvellously complex it tanked recordkeeping for 5 days? anybody hear?
Yes we have a post from an Admin here

"Hi everyone, we are aware of this issue and working hard to fix it. We apologize for all the trouble. We appreciate your patience as the team is working hard to resolve this issue. In the meantime, be sure to keep track of your BB # or anything that should’ve been added or is missing. Me or an FA will keep you all updated."
i see...sounds AWFULLY familiar...which Admin ? i've lost track of who's in and who's out, they used most of the ones i had any kind of working relationship with as sacrificial goats and faded them away.
ReplyDeleteno word on WHY this is happening, i suppose?
Oh it was SnackstheCat, the latest blue-eyed admin that everyone loves (LOL) -- active I believe in that competition forum.
ReplyDeleteNope, I am still at the morning coffee stage but as far as I can see, no explanation at all. hat we are getting of course is the rumour-mill at full force saying that this is because they are releasing a new pet. the rumour is based on the precious snacksthecat vague statement on an obscure thread which did include a new pet due some time in October. But whether this glitch, starting last day of September, has anything to do with that, the foogods only know.
sorry is too early, I cannot spell. "what" not hat, and "previous" not "precious". going to get more caffeine heh
ReplyDeletelol - know how you feel, i believe in the four basic food groups : caffiene, nicotine, salt, and sugar (chocolate and alcohol are vitamins).
ReplyDeletei sometimes think that very few of the capital A's have independent existences - when a given persona falls out of favor (member or management), just paste on a new name and profile...
if it IS the new pet causing the problem, then the changing of the guard from Hornbaker to Jsnasov (and/or Mojo to Rivet) must have cost them the people who knew how to input new-pet coding - that is the one new upload that did NOT cause this problem in the past, lol.
LOL YES I am going to paste that onto a notepad, enlarge and print, and point to it silently when people try to reduce my caffeine (etc) intake hehehe
ReplyDeleteAs you suggest, the As do seem to be very interchangeable. I never feel that I am talking to an individual whenever I address one of them.
Personally I don't think the mess has anything to do with a new pet, even if they do actually produce one within the next day or two, although who knows, maybe they did sack the few coders who know how.
My guess is that it has to do with the new blog that they want to use instead of the newsletters, since that is of least interest to me and I am a cynic. What I would LIKE it to be would be the return of the ghosts and the "pet not founds" from deleted accounts, and of fostering... Heh old dreamer that I am!
Well we shall find out in the end.
Hoping that all went well with Hubby's op. I am going back today for a check-up, and it is all very Keystone Cop just getting me there and back LOL
Happy daze
so far he seems to be doing well - at least he has recovered enough to drive me bonkers, a good sign, i suppose...
ReplyDeletethe "4 groups" is something i made up for a Tshirt, if i can get access to a Hix press (mine died of respectable old age some years ago), i'll make you one. remind me to tell you some of the other gems i made up for that project.
what catches my eye about the onsite Admins (post Kate, anyway) is that there is NEVER a dialog - it's always a one-off, either via response or a closed sticky. EAB1 was a person (i "talked" to him off-camera, and even know his name), but all these others seem to be just hand puppets that get picked up and used whenever and by whomever convenient. the only interaction is with ambs that they can disown in a heartbeat, like when Xtine tactlessly admitted that the link ban was Corie's interpretation and not an actual part of TOS (still isn't, by the way - and even the "Rules" recently put up no longer try to pretend that it is)
LOL yes that is a good sign -- so long as you can resist the urge to throttle him. We do not want you in gaol for manslaughter, you probably would not have Internet access 8}
ReplyDeleteOh YES that would be awesome, and I am looking forward to seeing what other gems you had there :D
I agree about the latest Admins; snacksthecat to me "feels" like different people at different times, and my feeling is that EAB1 has used that account for some messages recently, they just sound like him. But it may be that they all have so soaked up the "team" thing that they all sound the same, who knows.
None of them has the first idea about customer care, and they seem to have very little if not zero understanding of or patience with the game that they have taken over. The ambassadors don't know much either, their only plus is that they have been on the site for a long time and so each understands the forums and whatever particular player-niche they themselves enjoy. It makes me laugh when a player posts a thread asking obscure game questions and saying that they want an answer from an a or an A... they get really good answers from people who have really researched those particular areas, but still they say "thanks but I want to hear it from an a or A"... Poor gullibles.
And yes, I have read the TOS again recently and none of these special little extra rules is in that.
Well, we seem to have lift-off again with the care history etc. Not sure what they were messing with when they caused that lot of disasters, but at least they realised this time that even at the weekend they need a nice shiny A to sit there drinking its beer and posting occasional "we are working on it" posts.
i really think there are a lot fewer people on the A team than would appear...management seems to be subtending a given persona for a given task, and whoever's handy wears the puppet and does the deed. that way if there IS a major scandal or screwup (or they need a sacrificial lamb, as they used Ron for), they can kill off any of the visible A's without actually affecting staff.
ReplyDeleteThat makes a lot of sense to me, as that would also be a lot of people for them to pay really.
ReplyDeleteAs for your latest blog query, no I have no idea what the amazing new thing was that caused such a long and massive outage on the ledger, gifting, friending etc. I have been looking through the forums and see nothing new ior unusual yet
(snort) in other words, not only did their latest brainchild fry foundation code, it didn't even RUN? that is truly a hoot. so that's the programming quality you get for 5 to 15 million, eh? amazing how these other sites cope on 50 bucks a month (if they're lucky), and still manage to not upload new code until it's been alpha-tested on a closed system...
ReplyDeleteLOL yes I nearly snorted out my coffee the wrong way when I realised what a bloomer they had made :))
ReplyDeleteThis firm does NOT seem to believe in testing code properly, but that's not much different from the old firm.
One thing suggested on the boards, don't know if they will "bite" but if they did it would gp a long way towards healing wounds -- a downloadable app which contains just the pets with interactions but no rewards, and the scenes/items. There would be no effect on the online pets or profiles whatsoever but the players who had spent money only to have the items taken from them would be partially pacified, and the thing could act as a nice little advertisement. Apparently another online game called superPokePets, which ironically is doing well and is very popular, is closing in March and is making a stripped-down offline snapshot of this kind available. take a look at this thread to see what the discussion is

i had heard about the SPP scandal - i am thrilled to hear that some kind of compromise is being offered.
ReplyDeleteas far as FooPets...it kind of already exists, in the form of their old Desktop app. the drawback, i think, is that it's tied to membership, though that's hardly insurmountable. also, you'd be pretty much stuck with the existing scene, as w/o some kind of transaction system you couldn't get items or maintain inventory. still, i'd pay for it, even on a pet-by-pet basis, which is how i'm certain it would be set up. they need moolah? great way to get some...
The Desktop version of foopets is quite different as it stands; that item makes calls to the server every time you do anything and feeding etc actually affects the bars and care history of the pet. The idea of the "lite" version is to simply make the interactive animations available on a background of your own choosing. Really quite simple, and possibly something that they might actually be able to do with very little effort.
ReplyDeleteYes I too would pay for the ability to have my pets in a separate, simple app. Plus, I would be more likely to continue my sub because I would feel that Rivet was more deserving of my support and that I was less of a gullible old fool.
mmm...i have been thinking about that - unless the pet is removed from Foo altogether to the new private app, the situation of "stranding" really isn't helped - you just have the pet in 2 places.
ReplyDeleteyes, the desktop is essentially just the widget code writ large...though i used to have a blast having Mycroft running all over everything else i was doing, sitting on whatever i was trying to see and hissing at bad Pogo scores, lol.
You have the pet in two places yes. But see, it isn't really like that... I wish I could explain why this excites me so...
ReplyDeleteThe point here is that the player who paid a lot for items and pets gets to have those as a copy on their hard drive. They get what they paid for, no more than that; the animations and the graphics. They cannot justifiably complain, and in fact it may be that many will return to the game through this because it is FAIR. You see, they might so much enjoy the memories that playing with this shadow of the game stir up that they will say "what the heck, I have what I paid for before and I want to interact more and hey I can afford it" and re-activate their account so as to play with the "real" pet and have all the social aspects of foo. Currently not only do they feel that foo will just take their money and keep slamming doors in their faces, but also they are faced with a very dull page that says their pets are being cared for (which is of course a lie) and to pay up to "upgrade" so as to see them; after a while they will surely shrug and forget foo.
The SPP people had I believe started to develop the Lite version before this all blew up, presumably as a useful tool for them in things such as advertising and pleasing customers. It is now a lifeline for the customers. Foo could use the concept as an advertisement, a pacifier and a draw through memories.
I currently subscribe to foo (obviously). I would continue to subscribe if I had the downloadable version, because although the downloadable version would make me feel that I have my pets safe (even though they are copies), it would not give me all the real Foopets experience. If you want to understand more about that, have a browse through the threads on SPP where people are glad to have the app (for their items that were paid for) but are mourning the closure of the real game which is the forums, trades, visiting others' pets etc etc.
Well yesterday I had a battle with an allergic reaction, I may not be very visible today, god bless xxx
OK well snacksthecat went to the thread to tidy it away under the carpet -- a good idea and might make it into their to-do list but don't hold your breath because they have all sorts of exciting things ahead. Oh well, that is more than we usually get and won't it be interesting if they actually do produce some exciting things LOL
ReplyDeletelike a cat covering up on linoleum...i see the site is seriously turtling as of 2pm CA today...the weekend cometh, i do believe they are going to give it another go - hold onto your hats (and fur), folks...
