well, it's been a day or so, and while we are still having problems they (whoever they really are) do seem to be trying. from what we can determine, the cached personal information - pets, profiles, assets, etc - survived the...er, "transition" intact, but the foundation operating code has had to be pretty much rebuilt from scratch, most likely with a less-than-full house, crew-wise.
while we, and most likely the rest of you, would deeply appreciate more frequent and informative updates - not to mention learning the identity of who is doing the informing - at this point we're inclined to cut them a little slack... getting the site back up in one functional piece needs to be the priority, and if that requires their full time and attention, we'll have to bear with them. (and hope that once we're out the other side, we and our new team, whoever they may really be, can finally work TOGETHER to restore FooPets to the marvelous site we know and love so well.)
the last official update we are aware of was on the 16th, from the intriguing "mynameissnacks" (as opposed to "snacksthecat"...) and is titled "Site is OK now" - not quite the case, as it turned out, but A for effort and we'll wait and see - and reads as follows :
"Hey everyone, FooPets is back up and running! We thank you all for being patient with us. If you have any questions regarding your account (Bonding Badge, Litter Birthdays, etc…), please contact Support, and they will resolve your issue as soon as possible."
if we are reading this correctly, they are offering far more and far fairer resolution to problems than we remember ever seeing in the past...cautious optimism?
2/21/12 add : the most current updates appear to be available in Twitter HERE
I'm really hoping that everything will be sorted out. I can't afford pay to play but I am still worrying about my dogs/cat -- I love them so much.
ReplyDeletethey are safe and being cared for, i just checked on them...keeping ALL the accounts when they had a perfect excuse (and a solid motivation, as i'm sure it would have made restoration work easier) to "lose" the dormant ones is a very good sign indeed...
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for keeping us updated. It is nerve racking but in the long haul it will be worth it--I hope. Keep our fingers and toes crossed!
ReplyDeleteI keep getting a default message that there is trouble at the data center and to follow on twitter. No activity on twitter at all. It is the falling puppy or 500 server error at times but I have never seen the current wording. I am holding my breath.
ReplyDeletehmm - it looks like the "tack it on, tuck it in" coding policy of the previous administration have come back to haunt whoever's trying to fix the site...every time they work on one thing, it tweaks something else, it seems.
ReplyDeletei've been seeing that naughty husky also, but i wouldn't listen to him if i were you, so far a reload has chased him off. (they may not even know he's popping up) some seriously strange visual effects and off and on errors of one sort or another, but persistent refreshing seems to get past them.
This morning the forum seems to be down. The message on the page says "due to load". Not even a refresh brings it up. I know the search feature in the forums hasn't worked for me for ages but this is the first time I've seen the whole forum go down. Jeez louise!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to ask a question on the forums this morning and since I can't and might not get a truly straight answer there anyway I hope it's ok to ask here: while Foopets was down one of the things I tried to do to get in was to create a second account. Foopets happily charged my credit card and let me pick out a pet but then I couldn't care for him until the site came back up. Oh well- live and learn. Anyway, I want to close that account and I'm wondering how best to do that? Can I sell my one pet in that second account to myself or what should I do about him? The FooDollars and gems I can spend down to zero and then send things to myself or gift them to friends but I'm concerned about the pet. Thanks, you guys! :)
The forums have been down for more than 12 hours. Aka since 8 am for me.
ReplyDeletemmm...Carrie knows how to magic a single/last pet out of an account, hopefully she'll pop by - for security's sake we are keeping that off even this public a venue (yes, still - at least until we have a better idea who's in charge).
ReplyDeletei think the new PTB are tripping over the excreable coding system that they inherited - under the old regime, new and altered code was stuffed in and/or tacked on any old way (hence the glitching and problems we had so consistently prior to this), and every time they get one thing fixed, something else tends to go blooie. try to be patient, they ARE trying.
checked out their Twitter (that seems to be the best source for updates atm) : they apologised for the problems, are still burning OT working on the site, and at least alluded to the problems with Amazon/Rivet that created the present circumstances.
I wonder about the forums being down.....not only are they unaccessible, but, on your profile page where there has always been listed the total of how many forum posts you have made during your time at Foo, the totals have been removed. Looks to me like perhaps the forums are gone for good.(I really hope and pray I am wrong!) I truly think this is scary and is going to drive many players away. I can't even message the ambassadors that are on my friend list as the list won't load. The other game site I play on is closing down on the 6th of March and if it weren't for that I would walk away from Foo now and save myself the stress and grief that I am experiencing. :-(
ReplyDeleteif they have pulled the code group out in order to work on it (which it does need, lol) without having it screw up 10 other things in the process, i believe the effect would be the same...failing that, they may be emplacing a brand-new, properly designed Forum system instead of the jury-rigged one we had. i don't think they plan to do without a Forum function altogether.
ReplyDeleteParrotlady is available via FaceBook - it is late here but i will try to reach her tomorrow and learn what is going on.
Sorry I am late on this. Yes, you can get the last pet off your profile, but you will need to spend a few FDs first by getting another pet. You can get both of them off there, you don't need to leave a poor token pet behind. Sorry I am in a rush tonight will try and be more helpful tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThank you Carrie! I really appreciate any help you can throw my way!
ReplyDeleteI think that the people who would remove this ability from us are probably no longer with Foo, so I will try and explain more clearly. Make sure that you have two pets on your account; buy a second one if you only have the one pet. Go to the Sell link on both of the pets and make a secret sale link for each. NOTE THE LINKS DOWN and test them to make sure that they both work. You need to note the links down before there is only one pet left. Now you can give people the links for both pets. They will be able to use those links to buy the pets. When your account is empty, delete it and all will be well. I hope that is clear enough.
DeleteOh, awesome! I get it completely! Thank you so much!! I'm so relieved! I'm off now to go and give it a go! A million thanks!!
DeleteGlad I could help :))) And if you need and don't have a good home for your babies, post the links here (should be safe enough) and we will snag 'em for you.
DeleteHugs and happiness
Hi Carrie, I had to wait a few days to make sure I had enough money in both accounts and today was the day. It was a complete success!!! I am so grateful! Your advice worked like a perfect charm!! A million thank yous!!
DeleteHurray! I am so glad, it is wonderful when you see that last pet get away from that trap, isn't it :) I think that one of the cruellest things that Rivet ever did was to trap the last pet on an account. High-five!
ReplyDeleteHigh five back at'cha! I think it's pretty awful! If somebody *had* to close an account and was really attached to their Foos, had been very careful about picking new homes for other pets, to get down to that last pet would be so sad. It's crummy for a company to take advantage of that attachment. But I'm so glad you could guide me! If a friend of mine ever gets in a pinch I'll pass on your knowledge (off site, via private email...) and pay it forward! Thank you! :)
ReplyDeleteBless you CLC1905, that is so perfect! Passing the news on to others is the way to prevent distress.
ReplyDeleteThe big problem for many who deleted their accounts was that, at least until recently, they were assured that their beloved pets would go to the AC, and of course good friends were waiting to pick up the pets. But of course the pets did NOT go back, as they used to go to the shelter when an account was deleted, and so many people have been left with the sad task of caring for a pet hidden behind "pet not found" that can never be treated for fleas.
Requests to the Rivet staff to change this appalling happening were blocked with the answer that sometimes people asked for their accounts back (never mind that there are all the warnings before they hit the "delete" button that this decision is irreversible) and so they would not free the pets trapped behind "pet not found". Despite the fact that those who deleted their accounts were promised that the pets WOULD be taken to the AC. How nasty is that? I for one am glad that Rivet went bust, with that kind of attitude to customer care on a pet-care site, and I only hope that the new owners will be more capable of addressing these problems.
