as the previous post's info needed updating (and the Comments section was getting longer than the Foop entire, lol), we are starting over. anyone interested in the links to Brother Games or the byplay in Comments, just scroll down.
CONFIRMED - FooPets has been sold, to an unknown entity
CONFIRMED - a FooPets Admin, either Snacks or Remsie, posted this info on the site at some point yesterday, last night, or early this morning
CONFIRMED - the site is offline, as opposed to glitched
CONFIRMED - a few days prior FooPets was transferred to a new server (see Comments, post DominOnoes)
CONFIRMED - the site you are directed to when you google "foopet ownership", Brother Games, is NOT the new owner, but a Games broker who had the site from before. (the fact that no one ELSE pops up is raher odd...)
CONFIRMED - both FaceBook and Twitter are now carrying posts that the problem is being worked on (still not sure by whom, lol) and should be resolved soon - and hopefully then we can answer the other issues below.
UNKNOWN - who is now operating the site, how long it will take to be reinstated (according to the Announcement posted prior to the shutdown, reinstatement IS planned, so pets and accounts should remain intact)
UNKNOWN - how long the transfer process will take
UNKNOWN - what the policies of the new controlling agency will be

* FooPets FaceBook page HERE
Thank you so much for the updates. I feel a little more relieved knowing everyone has this problem. Hopefully everything will get figured out and I will still have my account. Thanks!
ReplyDeletefrom what i am seeing, the site - even if transferred to another server - will remain intact. the big question now regards the quote unquote change in ownership...
ReplyDeletejust in from VPL - make i=of it what you will...foopets data HERE
ReplyDeleteThat does not look all that good.
ReplyDeletejust checked back in on that statistical site - i had requested an update, as the info there was months out of date (since prior to forced subscriptions)...holy cow. revenues dropped by 2/3 since then, site visits down by half and repeat visits to less the 4x week on average? yikes!
ReplyDeleteOh my so I take it this will most likely be our last chance. I hope the new owners can turn this around before it goes off the cliff. I fear the front wheels are already there. It has to be paired with something that can support it financially, because those of us that are sticking it out are running out of extra cash as fast as they are. And if those of us that have multiple accounts have to go to one those figures will plummet ever farther.
ReplyDeletesince the figures we found show almost a 70% drop in income since the advent of pay-to-play, hopefully common cents will prevail...just checked in on the site, they are making progress on reconstructing the code.
ReplyDeletemmm...name in blog is now "mynameissnacks" as opposed to "snacksthecat" - if no one can log on, no one can change names : do we have a ringer on our hands?
ReplyDeletehad this passed to me via VPL (among other things, including some other news so frightening i passed it privately to Parrotlady to look into before sharing) - has anyone run across THIS before?
ReplyDeleteCanaans- I have seen that site before. My son and I just joined Foo in September and when he asked me if we could join I Googled "FooPets" +safety just to see what info was available and that came up. So it's been floating around out there at least since last Sept. (2011) If I was a potential buyer for Foopets as a company it would certainly give me the shivers.
ReplyDeleteAnd I just wanted to say again how wildly grateful I am that y'all are here looking into this and keeping us all informed! I appreciate your efforts so much!
ReplyDeletethere are so many question marks besides the major ones i put in the post...but the bulk of them will keep until we have a functional site. i just hope that they haven't lost any data - i know they eliminated browser-caching (to prevent people from accessing "locked account pets, mostly), hopefully their server DOES cache and they had it backed up.
ReplyDeleteHello, I've been trying to keep up to date with the FooPets progress from various sources and came by here. The CommonSense site was heavily used by angry FooPetters during that period of October 2010 to April 26, 2011. Even I, in my anger, left a nasty comment.
ReplyDeleteYes Canaan I saw it too. I did not post on it though. It was during the time when the forums were running very hot. So much wasted time because of it too. They let us fight it out so they did not have to address the real problems. I just hope we can keep this thing going long enough to save it.It is a phenomenal game and could do so much good on so many levels not just fun for us and income for the owners.
ReplyDeleteif we are successful in restoring the restored site, it's going to take a long time to restore Foo's reputation...the first step in my eyes would be splitting the site - one for up to, say, 15, without forums, sales or breeding, for children to actually LEARN about pets (and how to get along with others online), eventually being mentored into membership in the full site, intended once more for those 15 (at least) and up, with the children's site, at least, being free - including what they need for care, though they should have to go and get at least the food - toys and decor available for points earned by good care...NO FooDollars for ANYTHING, including pets, those should alos be earnable by being a good owner and site citizen.
ReplyDeleteI have always hoped that it could be used for education and teaching kids how to treat animals. As well as a family game and an adult pass time. I never felt so good as when we saved those kittens from that nasty little hacker breeder. It was like bringing down a huge puppy mill. If only the powers that be had seen the potential there. It is a perfect vehicle for teaching. As exampled by so many stories of autistic kids or with learning disabilities really attaching to the pets. It would be great. And a real service. I know of several special ed teachers who used their account for that exact purpose. Much better than hamsters and rabbits.
ReplyDeleteYes, there should be responsibility and real lessons. And from reading the news stories kids need to learn empathy somewhere. I guess it is not likely though. I just wish it had not been tarnished by all the dollar signs and in fighting.
But I am rambling. That is what i do when I don't know what to do with my time. I should be feed cats and walking dogs.
I checked into Brothers games. Found the following, but the site is not accessible unless you are a new member. No notification on when the site will be accessible. Brothers games has no contact vehicle - can't call 'em. They talk about free FooPets again, but I can't sign on yet.
ReplyDeleteHere's what I saw on their site:
http://online.brothergames.com/social-games/foopets.html
FooPets are the world's cutest and most realistic virtual pets. Adopt your own 3D interactive puppy or kitten today, absolutely free of cost! FooPets get hungry and thirsty, enjoy playing with toys, crave attention, and love being spoiled by their owners. Just like real pets, FooPets' health and well being depends on regular feedings, care, and lots of play! A FooPet may be adopted by anyone! You can easily earn enough FooGems by logging in every day to keep your FooPet fed, groomed, and happy. And you can shop for thousands of supplies and accessories in the FooMart!

Sorry for the bump - not sure what happened.
ReplyDeleteBrothers games is a broker - they have tons of games. Our little FooPets are just one more "game" on their list. Very sad.
Flatbushgambler
yes, we figured that out and amended our posts accordingly (and BG's info is about 2 years out of date, to boot)...i will edit out the duplicates, i think your keyboard has been drinking, lol.
ReplyDeleteif we ever get FooPets back up with any kind of intelligent direction, we should make a concerted effort to help them put the site on the track it was meant to be on - to the benefit of all.
I agree, Gold Rush. I looked at Brothers Games' website - almost looks like it will let you open up a new FooPets account, but older members can't sign in yet.
ReplyDeleteAnd, sadly, it is not the keyboard .... it's me! One more glass of cab - en route!! ;P
sounds good to me - though i prefer a nice rich port. i managed to bust in over at Brother, they are also deep in Mad Kitty, all Foo-derived (and there are a BUNCH of them) sites are.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised. I got onto the site, and actually opened a new account; had concerns that old members had been kicked off, and only new could join, but no go - mad cat. So, I now have a new FP account with a new FP I can't feed. And yes, a rich port sounds devine! ;D
ReplyDeletemmm...or in warmer weather, a nice homemade sangria (with a dollop of Calvados in it). you actually got as far as adopting a pet via Brother? interesting, i believe that's a good sign as far as their progress on rebooting the site.
ReplyDeleteInteresting and scary fact, Foo is not the only site that has been going down. I know of another site that was down for almost 3 days, the members had a error message each time they tried to log in. The site went back to normal yesterday and users were able to log on. The scary part is that a lot of data has been lost. I am hoping that Foo issues are different that the other sites and that no data will be lost.
ReplyDeletewhich site was that? i'd be interested in looking into it.
ReplyDeletemany sites have crashed to some degree or other in the recent past - MagiStream (server crash - large loss of data), and Varenth (reason unknown, moderate loss of data) that i know of personally. both sites replaced lost pets and assets as quickly as they could as well as they could, but their pets were static collectibles, very different from the situation here.
Does anyone have any more news as to when FooPets will be up and running again? I know, stupid question. They are making progress, able to access a few more pages.
ReplyDeleteThis is what I received from snacks and that was it.
ReplyDeletehttp://thefoopetsblog.wordpress.com/
ah...but IS it the Snacks we know and more-or-less trust? (and that's been there since the git-go, along with the FB post) without being able to log on, s/he couldn't have changed the screen name...and why NOT just use the one that's familiar, if it IS "our" Snacks? something (else) fishy here...
ReplyDeletecan anyone translate this into simple English for me? i'm REALLY hoping it's better than it sounds...

This means that the "storefront" database server (main server) is not working properly and can't talk to the other servers which is where our different accounts are. The main server that routes us to the different servers that our accounts are spread out on, is down.
ReplyDeleteFoo came up for me at about 10 FOOtime Still shaky but there.
ReplyDeleteIt came up for me just after midnight Texas time- shaky- like the other poster said, but there!
ReplyDeleteFooPets is online again. Slow, glitchy, still getting Mad Kitty now and then, can't access Ledgers. But all 7 of my accounts are intact and Lookin' Real Good.
ReplyDeleteThis is progress :)
all data seems to be intact...we're also hitting the occasional Mad Kitty or 500 error, but so far have been able to reload out of them. all babies cared for and content. (now i can finally sleep, lol)
ReplyDeleteI tried to sign in multiple times, but still got the mad cat errors. I will keep trying, though. It's good to hear some can get on!
ReplyDeleteI got in via Google Chrome and Internet Explorer so maybe if you can try one of those it might work for you. Good luck! I'm still getting lots of Mad Kitty as I try and navigate around- far more than I did at 2am Texas time when I was feeding my guys last night. I imagine because as people are checking in the site is getting busier and busier. Hang in there, everybody. And I had the thought that if nothing else good comes of this downtime, I did find this blog which I didn't know about before and that's an awesome thing!
Deletewe are having reasonably good luck getting in via Firefox and feeding via m.foo - plus, you can see the care status of all pets there, so if you instacare it's a good way to check up on it.
ReplyDeleteCLC, welcome to the Foop!

ReplyDeleteMaybe you saw this. It was from Thursday....

Hello everyone! A brief update-- the site is getting closer to getting back to normal. We're aware of all the errors that some of you might be encountering (mad kitties, no allowance, instacare, etc...), but when the site is fully functioning again, these issues should be resolved. As for those that have contacted Support, we appreciate your patience as we tackle the ticket queue. We promise, we will get to your message shortly. Thanks again for being the best community!

What a joke in itself. "Some" errors. Who has read the forums of problems and nothing is done yet to fix anything. There has not even been any engineer hired from what support states. They are not telling any truths.
